The NW Region of the Texas BASS Nation held its 2020 Regional Championship on Possum Kingdom Lake October 24th & 25th. The weather, as usual, threw us a curveball dropping the temperatures from the 80’s on Thursday to the low 40’s on Saturday to start the tournament. PK was already fishing tough like many of the lakes in Texas this year, but as they say “someone always finds the fish”.
Jim Simpson led the boater division on Day #1 bringing in a 5 fish limit weighing 17.28 lbs. On Day #2 Jim put the hammer down bringing in a 5 fish limit weighing 23.69 lbs which included a beautiful 8.08 lb stud for Big Bass of the tournament. Jim’s two-day total weight was an impressive 40.97 lbs! Way to go Jim! Mike Pruitt came in second with a total weight of 24.58 and Kelley Hudson was third with 22.96.
The co-angler division was a much tighter race with all three of the top finishers within ounces of one another. Bobby Maynard brought in a 3 fish limit each day for a total weight of 12.85 lbs to take the win. Jarret Robertson was a close second with 12.68 and David Zak finished in third with 12.34.
Sonny Morrow was also recognized as our 2020 NW Region Angler of the Year! Sonny is an outstanding young fisherman that holds his own against some pretty good sticks here in the west. Sonny will receive free entry into all NW Region events this coming year. Congrats Sonny!
I want to thank Tracie and Jim and the rest of the staff at Possum Hollow for their hard work and hospitality. Providing hot dogs at the weigh-in for all the hungry fisherman was just icing on the cake. If you’re looking for a great place to stay on PK this is it!
