December 5, 2021
Day 1 was overcast and calm most of the day. Day 2 stared out overcast along with a 20 MPH breeze that tested the fortitude of paddlers at the first Texas BASS Nation Kayak State Championship on Stillhouse Hollow Reservoir in central Texas.
The lake is super clear and full of grass, down to 30 feet of water, so the bite was pretty consistent all day if you got on ’em.
Rolando Nandine came out on top with a total of 175″ of bass and a check for $1000.
Second place went to Joey Montgomery with a total of 172.75″ and a check for $700.
Third place went to Alan Cox with a total of 128.0″ of bass and a check for $400.
With a 22 boat field, two teams qualified to move on the next level. The next level being the BASSMASTER Kayak Series Championship to be held March 2nd & 3rd, 2022 on Richard B. Russel Lake in Anderson, South Carolina.
Congratulations to Rolando Nandine and Joey Montgomery who will represent the Texas BASS Nation at the Championship. The tournament field will be comprised of qualifiers from the 2021 Kayak Series — and though the tournament will actually conclude on March 3, the winner will be revealed March 4 and receive a first-place prize of at least $20,000 on stage at Bon Secours Wellness Arena before the first-round weigh-in of the Bassmaster Classic.
Good luck Rolando and Joey!!
