The SE Region held its 5th event for the season at the Sabine River. Early reports were sounding like it was going to 15+ lbs bag to win but as always Mother Nature had other ideas. The week before and leading up had strong south winds which effected the tides and also limited most of the field to certain areas. A small number of the field did not weigh in fish and a mix of 1-4 fish and there were several limits weighed in.
Dillon Y’barbo from the Vidor Bass Anglers Association took 1st place with 9.06lbs with a 3.37 kicker, followed by Terry Reich from the Seven Coves Bass Club with 7.83 lbs, 3rd went to Tim Jahn from The Bass Club with 7.67 lbs.
Dillon started out in his first spot and there was 15 boats in there so he went to some other spots and caught some in the main creek channels throwing a spinnerbait and chatterbait to get a limit then after that Dillon went and hit some high percentage areas with a frog to cull 3 times. With the biggest being the 3.37 he was fishing current seams on the main channels and shaded areas with the frog.
Big Bass Honors went to Clayton Smith from The Bass Club with a 4.55 lbs toad followed by Caleb Breaux with 4.31 lbs
Clayton only had one spot of about 100yds of Lilly pads and bushes that he had bites in practice so he was going to spend his whole day picking it apart. But Clayton wasn’t worried about the morning time because the tide was down and the majority of his bites were with high tide all the way against the bank in bushes or lily pads. But his big one came when the tide was at its lowest point on a wacky rig when he was just goofing off trying to find extra bites before the tide came back in
