The fifth stop for the South Region was Choke Canyon, where 23 Anglers squared off under partly cloudy skies and 20+ knot “norther” winds that thankfully brought the mercury down to a “cool” 90 degrees. Michael Hargraves was the best of the field, throwing spinnerbaits and worms in 8-10 feet to produce the winning bag of 23.78#, anchored with a solid 6.88# kicker.
After a couple of month hiatus, Doc Pruski announced his return to the trail with a 19.79# for second place. Working from inside out to rocks and trees in 17’ he had a near winning big bass of 7.69# to top off a solid effort.
A close third, Ryan Watkins targeted isolated grass with a 6th Sense Divine jig in the morning, and after the “norther” blew through went out to ledges and brush piles in 15-17’ with a Gene Larew Jarhead to put together a 18.01# sack.
Larry Wilborn was just off the podium with a solid limit, but did get a check for his 7.91# big bass winner.
